Transition Initiative - Central Coast

Transition LogoThe transition initiative is growing in strength world wide. Transition initiatives focus on relocalisation, to the greatest possible extent, of food production and distribution, clean energy production, water harvesting and recycling, building more local economic activity (buying local) and reducing the collective carbon footprint. They are community initiated and community driven.

A Transition Initiative is a conscious community-initiated and organised activity aimed at increasing the community's own resilience - its ability to adjust to substantial changes and challenges without falling apart.

It is early days for Transition Central Coast, but meetings have commenced and interested parties have been working out what can be done on the Central Coast to enhance community resiliance. Follow the Transition Sydney link to find out more, or email the to make a query.

Raw Food Coasties and Pulse

PulRaw Food Logose is simlar to FIG in that they source and obtain bulk food supplies (organic whenever possible), but they focus mainly on dry produce such as flours, nuts, legumes and similar.

Raw Food Coasties however, are concerned with how best to make use of raw (uncooked) food as a healthy option to traditional western diets, or in their terms, as an option to SAD (Standard American Diet). Perhaps that should read Standard Australian Diet, as we are catching up. Follow the Raw Food Coasties link to find out more.

Food Integrity Group (FIG)

FIG LogoIf you are interested in sourcing good, clean healthy organic food, on the Central Coast, you should find out more about FIG or go to the FIG blog. They started operations on the Central Coast in 2009 after plenty of good lead up work from some very committed community members.

Local Groups

Some local groups or organisations operate under similar philosophies to what PCC does. Whilst there are many environmental organisations on the Central Coast doing good work, the organisations listed on this page have members that are often also members of PCC.

The groups with whom we have an informal affiliation are also concerned with living as sustainably as possible. This is usually achieved via the supply, sharing, provision, growing, use and consumption of organic, locally produced food, and by making best use of available resources and local services.
